Your healthy Tree can help with the Carbon Effect and revive an ailing tree!

We all love trees. But I recently read that some trees share carbon with their neighbours! Trees growing in the shade receive extra carbon, trees growing in the sun give more carbon!

Throw a handful of good rich forest soil into your tree’s planting hole. If you have a young tree that is not thriving, take some soil from around the base of a healthy tree of the same species, and work the healthy soil in around the ailing sapling, says Ellen Sandbeck in her book Slug Bread & Beheaded Thistles.

Save a broken tree for birds….

One acre of trees can absorb 2.6 tons of carbon dioxide, enough to offset the CO2 produced by driving a car 26,000 miles!

Trees also prevent soil erosion and protect water supplies.

Trees help clean up the air and reduce global warming.

When a tree dies you don’t always have to cut it down. “When I lost a crab apple, I planted morning glories around the base. The flowers used the tree for support – it was beautiful” says Rachel Maendel, New York.

Save your discarded Christmas tree for the birds. Just tie it around feeder posts or tree trunks near feeders. The birds will love the extra shelter, says Eldora Zimmerman Durand from Illinois.

Leafy areas are good for children & unplug broadband etc. when not in use!

Researchers from Columbia University in New York found that children who live in leafy areas have lower rates of asthma. It could be the trees filtering the air, or it could be children tempted to play outside more!

And then household pollutants can be cleaned up by growing a Peace Lily, a Spider Plant or a Philodendron inside which are all very good at removing formaldehyde from the air, according to NASA studies.

Eighty five per cent of the money spent on powering the world’s computers is wasted on machines that aren’t doing anything! Remember to switch off every plug that is not in use!

Turn off your broadband when you don’t need to be connected to the whole world, and switch it off at the end of the working day! Switch off the sockets to make sure devices aren’t still secretly using power! Turn the printer off standy too!

Unplug chargers when done. If you can feel that a charger or transformer is hot, or if it has a light on, it is using electricity even if it is not charging anything.

Morning badgers the Emerald Tree…

Morning cannily saves her

Pounds and pennies, rupees

And dollars by badgering the

Emerald Tree of treasures to

Dress up the day at no cost

with transparent tenderness

and provide booze for boozers
