Vidyadhar N. Hoskatta, 47, of Udupi had taken an insurance policy from Cigna TTK Pro Health-insurance Company Ltd.
He fell ill and got treated for his lower respiratory tract infection which cost him Rs. 20,656.
But when he submitted his bills to the insurance company for reimbursement its Manager (Claims) repudiated his claims on flimsy grounds stating that Vidyadhar had suffered from Genetic disorder which was not covered under his policy.
Vidyadhar complained to the Udupi District consumer disputes redressal forum which found Cigna TTK Pro Health-Insurance Company’s Manager (Claims) and Head of the Customer Service Grievance Cell of this firm guilty of deficient service and of harassing a consumer and causing hm mental agony.
It ordered the insurance company to pay up Rs. 20, 656 to Vidyadhar with interest at 10 per cent with Rs. 15,000 as compensation and another Rs. 10,000 as costs.
