Raj Kumar Bajaj of Kolkata, had insured his Tata Indigo vehicle with Bharti Axa General Insurance Company Ltd.
But when it met with an accident and he claimed damages from the insurance company for repairs, it refused to pay up on the grounds that he was not holding a valid driving license on the day of the accident. But its claims were false.
So the district, State and finally the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, New Delhi ordered Bharti Axa General Insurance Company Ltd. in Mumbai to pay up Rs. 3,92,518 to Bajaj with Rs. 25,000 as compensation for causing him distress. They have to pay up the money within a month failing which they would have to pay interest on the amount.
