Purring Psychic Kitty gives dreadful reading to Indian Railways Catering Tourism Corporation Ltd. ordered to pay up Rs. 40,000 to senior citizens stranded at Goa airport with no tickets to board plane
Anil Bihari Sahay, 60 years old, had booked tickets on Air India flight for himself and his wife with the Indian Railways Catering Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC) to travel from Jaipur to Goa. They paid up Rs. 8943 for their tickets.
But when they arrived to board their flight they were shocked to learn that no booking at been made for them on the Air India flight. In fact the flight had been rescheduled and had departed at 8 a.m. due to repair works going on at Jaipur airport. They had not been informed about this as well.
They had to pay up Rs. 27,920 for new tickets to reach Goa on Indigo Airlines. Though IRCTC refunded their ticket money of Rs. 8943 they ignored all emails demanding refund of the extra money they paid up to return to Goa with Indigo Airlines.
They complained to the Goa consumer forum and its Member Cynthia A. Colaco found the M.D. of IRCTC guilty of deficient service, callous and insensitive behaviour and gross negligence, having caused harassment, stress and inconvenience to two retired persons. She ordered him to pay up the remaining Rs. 18,977 to the couple, along with Rs. 10,000 as compensation and another Rs. 10,000 as costs.
