Pages from my Grey Cat & Red Rose Journal (13)
It was that year of nothing much to talk about in my life, dreary and dull as ditch water, when Ivy the small grey cat came to live with me.
We created this small recipe inside the kitchen of our imagination called Rose Rabadi, a dessert made out of the small everyday sweets lying around for us to discover and use up.
We found out how quickly the water lettuce increases inside a pond and is one of the nicest treasures to have in the garden! In Lodhi Gardens in Delhi, some smart gardener has made a large pond out of this water plant. It looks lovely and encourages small and big birds and squirrels to rest near it.
Then we discovered an awesome, heart-stopping movie called The Tale on Hotstar, which kept us glued to the television. It is a chilling, exquisitely crafted film about a little girl’s short story, written when she was in school! Now grown up, nearing 50, this short story flares up, out of the attic, to bring back important, unnerving memories of what happened to her when she spent her childhood with two older persons in a farm. It turns out to be one of the most searing stories from the Me Too movement that has galvanized many girls and women to speak out about being shattered, shamed and decimated…
Laura Dern as usual is marvelous but equally dazzling is the actress who plays her younger self – Isabelle Nélisse in this haunting movie by Jennifer Fox. It will leave you shaken and distraught with its power. No woman should miss this golden gem of a film.
Then we discovered that Bicarbonate of Soda absorbs the molecules we notice as unpleasant smells inside the house. It can be used as an air freshener.
House plants can reduce indoor air pollution by between 50 and 70 per cent. Place three or more in an average sized room, says the Reader’s Digest.
Red Roses refreshed yet another day with their serenity.
