The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission New Delhi has come to the help of 20 consumers who suffered due to the unfair trade practices and deficient service from a builder, Country Colonizers Pvt. Ltd. in Uttar Pradesh.
They had paid up amounts ranging from Rs. 69,000 to Rs. 79,000, or more, to Country Colonisers Pvt. Ltd. which had promised to build flats for them in a community to be named Wave Garden.
The flats were to have been built by Shapporji Pallonji and Co. Ltd.
But after collecting money from them, the builder and his functionaries did not give them the flats within 30 months as promised. In fact no structure, no construction work had begun on the site, when they visited it. They complained to the State Consumer Commission Punjab which awarded compensation to each of them, finding the builder and his associates guilty of deficient service and unfair trade practice, causing harm, losses and hurt to all consumers.
They went in appeal to the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commision New Delhi which also found them guilty and ordered them to refund the money to all the 20 complainants along with Rs. one lakh has compensation, and another Rs. one lakh as litigation costs.
The builder and its Director have also been put to stern advice of caution with costs of Rs. 25,000 in each case amounting to Rs. 50,000 to be deposited in the Consumer Legal Aid Account of the State Commission, Punjab!
