Life Insurance Corporation of India, LIC, has been ordered by the Gadag consumer forum in Karnataka to pay up Rs. 5 lakh to the widow of Ravi Kumar, a driver with the KSRTC.
Ravi Kumar died of a heart attack and when his widow tried to claim her husband’s insurance policy money the LIC refused. It said that Ravi Kumar had suppressed the truth when he had bought the policy, that he was unwell. Hence they repudiated her claim.
The widow complained to the Gadag consumer disputes redressal forum where LIC produced unreliable documents to prove their claim. The signatures by the doctors in the documents shown by the LIC were suspicious and the court ruled in favour of the widow.
The consumer forum President Smt. C.H. Samiunissa ordered LIC to pay up Rs. 5 lakhs due to Ravi Kumar’s widow.
