To avoid shopping I always sleep on my handbag all day, till the shops close! So everyday is No Shopping Day for me!
To shop less for clothes is good for the planet! Share and exchange clothes instead of madly shopping for new ones!
Try buying recycled clothing! Did you know hat fleece jackets can be made from plastic bottles, and trainers from denim and car tyres?
Says Joanna Yarrow in her book How To Reduce Your Carbon Footprint: try to buy organic cotton and wool. Bamboo or hemp fibre. These are low-Co2 textiles. They absorb above-average levels of CO2 and need minimal application of fertiliser and pesticides.
We can do without synthetic fibres like nylon and polyester, which gobble up energy. Nylon is really a bad choice as it produces nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas 310 times more potent than CO2.
Did you know that it takes just 25 two litre plastic bottles to make one adult-size fleece jacket?! Remember that a hectare of bamboo absorbs up to 2 tonnes of CO2 each year! So go for bamboo clothing and other items!
