One of the easiest ways to stay slim says Michael Pollan, the international bestselling author of In Defence of Food, is to buy smaller plates and glasses!


In his addictive little book called Food Rules An Eater’s Manual, he says ‘’the bigger the portion, the more we will eat – upward of 30 per cent more! Aware of this trait, canny food marketers supersize our portions as a way to get us to buy more.

But we have the choice not to supersize portions at home! One researcher discovered that simply switching from a twelve-inch to a ten-inch dinner plate caused people to reduce their consumption by 22 per cent!
