Wordless Wednesday reminds you to try using a ceiling fan!
In the last 10 years, Americans have bought 60 million ceiling fans! Today they may be considered old fashioned! But they consume as little energy a 60 watt bulb! Which is about 98 per cent less energy than most central air conditioners use.
Many ceiling fans save energy in winter as well as summer. Some rooms in your house can be 15 degrees warmer at the ceiling than at the floor. A well-placed ceiling fan can reduce this difference to only 3 degrees!
If you are going to buy one, look for a fan that is reversible and has more than one speed. Where to install yours? Rooms with the highest ceilings are the best choice. Match the size of your fan to the size of your room. For rooms up to 12 feet by 18 feet, use a 48-inch or 52-inch fan. If the room is bigger than that, you will need two fans.
