Share your car for the planet!
Whether you are using your car for shopping, or going to the movies, or to take your kids to school, you can change your driving habits by sharing it for the sake of the planet!
The average car commuter in the UK drives 19 miles a day. Cutting that by half through car sharing would save 648 kg of carbon dioxide over one year, the same as that absorbed by 216 trees!
Most often your car will be half empty wherever you take it. But if you find people to share it with, it will help the environment.
The benefits of sharing a journey: you can save money. More important, you reduce the number of cars on the roads – they are less congested, there will be less pollution and fewer parking hassles, says Michael Norton in his book 365 Ways to Change the World.
Instead of driving to a far off place for a holiday or a picnic, do it nearby, at your favourite park or garden, or even spend the day having a picnic in your own garden!
