5 top brands of bottled drinking water and other lesser known brands, are heavily contaminated with pesticide residues says a 2017 study by Centre for Science and Environment

DSCN2901

The Centre for Science and Environment in Delhi recently tested 17 brands of bottled drinking water sold in Delhi, Gurgaon and Meerat and was alarmed to find that they were all heavily contaminated with pesticide residues like DDT, lindane, Endosulfan, Malathion and Chlorpyrisos!

Could this be the reason that we don’t much like water?!!!

The researchers found Lindane in 94 per cent of all samples!

DDT in 70.6 per cent of all samples.

Malathion and Chlorpyrisos in 85.3 and 82.4 samples!

People switch from tap water to bottled water thinking it would be safer and cleaner, but this is not true, the study found out. The top five brands like Bisleri, Bailley, Pure Life, Aquafine and Kinley were as dangerous to drink as their lesser known relatives in the frighteningly huge market of bottled water that is throttling the planet’s most endangered precious gold – water!

While the big companies like Nestle and PepSico India Ltd. Bisleri and Bailley and Kinley advertise their products claiming that the ‘clean’ bottled water they are selling comes from ‘spring water’, fresh mountains, etc. it actually comes from municipal tap water from 11 different city and town water supplies, says CSE!

So when we buy bottled water for anywhere between Rs. 20 to Rs. 30, we are actually buying municipal tap water which we can boil and drink for free in our homes!
