Cat-Gardening: Shop for safe garden pest medicines!

Cat-Gardening: buy citrus oils and plant extracts to fight garden pests!

  1. Citrus fruits make oils that kill garden pests on contact by poisoning them! These oils do a very useful work: they repel fleas, ants, and silverfish, for weeks and are safe around people and pets. The active ingredient is d-Limonene. Look for it on the label and you can also try Orange Guard.
  2. You can even make this lemon rinse to kill fleas on your cats, and dogs by: cut up two lemons and pour boiling water over them. Let the lemons soak overnight. Sponge the lemony liquid over your pet – it kills fleas on the spot. Orange skins can also be used for this home made remedy.

  1. Garlic is another fierce foe against garden pests. Plants that also repel pests are marigold, nasturtium, onions, rue, mint, rosemary, sage and tansy. Garlic Barrier is a commercial product available but you can also make your own homemade garlic repellent.

Rodale’s All-Purpose Sprapy: liquefy 1 garlic bulb and 1 small onion, add 1 teaspoon powdered cayenne pepper, and mix with 1 quart water. Let steep for 1 hour, strain through cheesecloth, then add 1 tablespoon liquid soap. Mix well and use. Leave the soap out and you can use this recipe to flavor your chili!
