When S.C. Jain had planned a happy party to celebrate his son’s engagement, and his daughter in law’s birthday party he had paid up Rs. 1,50,000 to GGS Fast Food & Banquet in Delhi.
They had promised to give the party a grand banquet starting at 11 a.m. with a feast consisting of 8 kinds of fruits, with five imported ones, ten stalls with 30 waiters, decorations with foreign and Indian flowers.
But the feast turned into. a nightmare as nothing was ready at 11 a.m. to delight the guests when they arrived! Even at 2 p.m. finally there were only five stalls with 10 waiters to look after the guests. Decorations as promised with Indian and foreign flowers were not done. Worse was to come!
The food was not cooked in pure ghee as promised and stale food was served to the guests! Only four Indian fruits were supplied and the foreign fruits were missing!
The furious consumer complained to the district consumer disputes redressal forum which only awarded him a small compensation. He then complained to the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Delhi which ordered GGS Fast Food & Banquet, New Delhi to refund Rs. 1,75,000 to Jain, along with Rs. 1 lakh as compensation and Rs. 10000 as costs.
The fast food store went in appeal to the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission against this order but was not helped there and its appeal was dismissed. It is to be hoped that this firm will cook up a better banquet for its customers!
