Add flowers to your vegetable garden!
Many scientists now tell us to add flowers to the vegetable garden! Flowers produce nectar that naturally lures bees. But it also attracts and provides sustenance for such useful insects as wasps and lacewings. The nectar keeps them happy and healthy in your garden where they can lay eggs, with the result that more beneficial insects will be available to devour the pests.
Many experts have always recommended marigolds as a natural enemy of nematodes. But some researchers have learned that it is not really the presence of marigolds that fights pests. Instead, they say, you should grind up the entire marigold plant, (roots, stems, leaves, and flowers) and work the mulch into the soil for an effective nematode repellant.
