Packers and Movers are supposed to be those friendly, helpful, nice angels who help us to move our household goods from one town to another, when we are transferred. But one consumer who found a firm on the internet, and used their services, had a very nasty experience!
Kundan Kumar, the 32 year old Government employee from the Naval Base, Karwar was transferred to Kolkata. He got in touch with the Proprietor of the Safe Leo Home Express Pvt. Ltd. Packers and Movers and asked them to move his household goods to Kolkata. He paid up Rs. 17,000 for their services.
The firm’s proprietor Sanjay Singh assured Kundan Kumar that all his household goods would reach Kolkata within 15 days. But 15 days later the goods had not reached Kolkata. Kundan Kumar contacted Sanjay Singh who assured him that they would arrive a few days later. But when they did not arrive even after three days, he asked Singh what the matter was.
Singh informed him that his household items were lying at Howrah railway station! He then strangely asked Kundan Kumar for his car and bike insurance papers. The household goods still did not arrive. Several days later when they finally arrived Kumar was shocked to discover that they came with the wrong bike! It did not belong to him! Also most of the items, especially the refrigerator, were badly damaged! Then he was dismayed to find that his LED television was also missing!
Therefore he asked the firm’s owner to pay for the damages of his goods, and for the missing LED T.V. But Singh refused. Hence Kumar filed a complaint with the district consumer disputes redressal forum, Uttar Kannada at Karwar claiming compensation of Rs.25,000/, special damages Rs.25,000/-, for damage to house hold items a sum of Rs.50,000/- for the missing LED T.V a sum of Rs.13,475/- from the firm’s owner.
The court directed the firm calling itself (leohomepackers in India@gmail.com) (which never appeared for the hearing!) to pay for LED T.V price Rs.13,475/-damages to refrigerator Rs.10,000/-, compensation of Rs. 5,000/- and cost of suit Rs.5,000/- to the complainant within 30 days from the date of this order, failing which to pay the interest @ 8% from the date of filing till the realization.
