Chico Mendes campaigned for reserves in the Brazilian rainforest. The trees in the reserves would be protected from felling and burning, so that local people could earn their living by harvesting rubber and brazil nuts etc.
Chico Mendes was murdered by his enemies in 1988 but his supporters are still trying to save the reserves.
You too can help the survival of the rain forests by eating brazil nuts! The more you eat, the more the Brazilians sell, the more money they earn and the less likely they are to destroy the rain forests! Since brazil nuts only grow in rain forests, you can be sure when you are eating one that you are being a green consumer and helping to save trees!
